Transform life’s challenges and create a life you love.

Rishikesh, India : Nov. 23 – Dec. 5, 2020

In the quiet, predawn air in the lush, green hills above Rishikesh, you’re breathing deeply and fully, reveling in each footstep. You’re delighting in your own personal pilgrimage toward the fabled Vashisht Gufa Cave. Just hours ago, you wondered why anyone would want to meditate in a place like this. But now, as you approach the cavern itself, you sense the sacred energies here—not only of this mystical place but also of the thousands of seekers who have come here before, including the famous Saint Vasistha for whom it is named.

Inside the cave, you settle in and close your eyes, allowing yourself to relax and surrender to the powerful influences that pull you deeper. Deeper into the cave. Deeper into life. Deeper into the truth of who you are.

After meditating for a while, you open your eyes and gaze up at your surroundings. Everything appears richer and fuller now, more vibrant and alive. You see everything with fresh eyes. You feel more balanced and peaceful, more happy and whole.

On the way back to the retreat center, you stroll calmly and peacefully down to the banks of the holy Ganges. There you sit, quietly savoring a cup of sweet chai tea as you watch the ancient river flow on. Now you know why someone would want to meditate in a cave. Now it’s crystal clear why you needed to come on this retreat: almost without your realizing it, the rich soils of ancient India have reshaped your thinking and changed your entire world.

Have you been thinking…

“Where can I go where all parts of my being come alive… where my mind, spirit, soul and body vibrate with life and color?”

November 20, 2019 - Scenic ride to Rishikesh, Yoga capitol of the world

After a hearty breakfast we begin our scenic drive to Rishikesh in a comfortable vehicle with lots of room and large windows.

http://www.TaoJourneys.com

After arriving and checking into the amazing Ganga Kinare Riverside Botique Hotel (see video below of this amazing hotel), we will take a short rest. With the holy waters of the Ganges and the Himalaya mountains forming a backdrop, the riverside resort is the epitome of spirituality. Its serene environment is a perfect platform our group to make the transcendental journey into meditation. The resort has played host to the coveted ‘International Yoga Week’ several times in recent years, and continues to be a pivotal space for Yogic gurus to impart their teachings. Almost immediately on arrival you will begin to feel the abundance of spiritual energy, in the shadows of the Himalayan Mountains.

Rishikesh – known as the “City of the Divine”- is a spiritual center to which sages, rishis, saints and pilgrims have flocked for millennia. The roads of the city are lined with bustling market places of ethnic arts and handicrafts, fresh produce markets, holy shrines and orange-robed sadhus. Then, the road narrows, the markets become more sparse and you come upon a foot bridge, suspended high over the sacred Ganga river. As you cross this bridge, the sun streaming through the sacred Himalayas to warm your being, you will feel as if you have truly come home.

Our evening program will consist of leisurely strolling around and seeing the numerous ashrams that dot the banks of the Ganga. We will also take a walk to Ram Jhoola and Laxman Jhoola, the amazing suspension bridges over the holy Ganges river. This will also take us through the town where we will get our first but not last opportunity to soak in the local life and atmosphere. At the banks of the river in the evening, we will be able to witness or even participate if you like in the Puja and Aarti ceremony at the bank of the Ganges River.

In the evening it’s time to take a soul journey with the practice of Yoga Nidra.  Yogi Akhilesh Pandey will be leading the class

Yoga nidra (Sanskrit: योग निद्रा) or yogic sleep) is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the “going-to-sleep” stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. This state of consciousness (yoga nidra) is different from meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light withdrawal of the 5 senses (pratyahara) with four of his or her senses internalised, that is, withdrawn, and only the hearing still connects to the instructions. The yogic goal of both paths, deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation are the same, a state of meditative consciousness called samadhi.

Yoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness.

www.TaoJourneys.com

First thing in the morning you can awaken your body gently, Yogi Akhilesh Pandey leads us through class. After breakfast we will journey to the Vashisht Gufa Cave situated at a one hour drive from Rishikesh. This is where famous Saint Vasistha meditated on the banks of the river Ganga. This is no ordinary cave and not meant as a tourist attraction, rather it’s meant for seekers of enlightenment, for people like us who are coming for the right reasons…to meditate of course. Inside the cave is very peaceful and a great place to kickstart your journey into meditation. After when we emerge from the cave, we will spend time by the peaceful riverfront. It has a natural beautiful setting, the perfect place to contemplate the meaning of life, alongside the holy River Ganges.

Wake up with gentle yoga in the early morning before breakfast with Yogi Akhilesh Pandey.

After breakfast we visit the famous Beatles Ashram, originally known as Maharishi mahesh yogi ashram, The Beatles visited here to attend Meditation sessions in 1968, stayed for several weeks and composed nearly 48 songs during their stay. John Lennon even recorded a song titled, ‘The Happy Rishikesh Song’. The meditation cells, lecture halls, maharishi’s house and the Beatles’s guest house can be seen. Usually we play a Beatles song and dance in the Ashram if you like. It’s out of respect for both meditation in motion as well as celebration of the Beatles time spent in India where are right now and their great music!

In the evening Terry will lead a Samatha-Vipassana meditation session this meditation. Vipassana is translated from Sanskrit into “insight” or “clear-seeing” meditation that has been practiced in India for many centuries. It was the meditation Buddha used to awaken into Enlightenment. Now in the west it is better known as Mindfulness.

IndiaYoga

~ After breakfast it’s time to participate in yoga with one of the best Yoga Masters in all of Rishikesh, Yogi Ashish Sharma.

Afternoon participate in Dyad Meditation Communication. What is this you ask?

The dyad process is explained to be a contemplation communication exercise for two people with a formal structure to enable effective communicating, listening and understanding each other. Thus it addresses very skillfully one of the most problematic interpersonal dilemmas in this day and age. Applying this technique  can bring clarity to relationship issues in your life, make it possible to talk about the seemingly impossible, and bring forth the trust and the courage to reveal yourself to the other. It has helped many to meet their true self,  to bridge the painful gap of separateness and move into union and oneness.

In the evening Terry will lead a Sufi inspired meditation called No Dimensions and then celebration of life exercises and activities. Finishing off the day, Yoga Nidra with Yogi Akhilesh Pandey.

November 28, 2019 - Agra here we come; Agra Fort

After breakfast we drive to Agra. On arrival we will check into the Four Point By Sheraton Hotel. We chose this hotel because of it’s connivence, style and it’s just a few kilometres from the iconic Taj Mahal. Also because after a long the long day of sightseeing you will be able to go for a refreshing swim in the hotels rooftop pool.

http://www.TaoJourneys.com

http://www.TaoJourneys.com

Here’s a little history lesson on the city:

Two great Mughal monarchs, Akbar and Shah Jahan, transformed the little village of Agra into a befitting second capital of the Mughal Empire – giving it the name Dar-ul-Khilafat {seat of the Emperor}. Today a visitor to Agra is caught up in a world of contrasting edifices, of red sandstone and white marble, narrow galleys and quaint buggies, and that irresistible charm that this favorite city of the Mughals still retains. It is not surprising, that modern Agra still reflects its Mughal heritage most conspicuously.

Are you ready?

In the afternoon we will proceed for the sightseeing tour of the city. AGRA FORT – The red sandstone structure is surrounded by chahar-bagh, a four-square formal garden. Built by the famed Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565 AD, the fort is predominantly of red sandstone. Ensconced within is the picture perfect Pearl Mosque, which is a major tourist attraction. It lies on the bend of the river Yamuna, almost in the heart of the town. Akbar built it as his citadel over the years 1563-73 in the finest architectural style. It has imposing gates and walls of red sandstone and a moat.

In the evening we will visit of Taj Mahal from Mehtabgh Bagh (Backside of Taj Mahal) where you can see the Taj from a distance. This will get your mouth watering for when we tour and walk on the Taj Mahal at sunrise.

November 29, 2019 - Giving love and service for our elephant friends

After a delicious breakfast, we will be picked up from the hotel and driven around 35 kms (01 hrs) from Agra for the next step of our journey. It’s time to give back now. We have received so much from Mother India, it’s only right that we give back a little to help others out right? So today we will volunteer our time at SOS Elephant conservation centre. We will spend entire day helping elephants at the rescue centre anyway we can. In previous years we have chopped up their food and fed them. We have also taken them for walks and given them showers and help to wash them. Most importantly however is that we have loved them dearly.

www.TaoJourneys.com

Later we will return back to the hotel to relax, have our farewell dinner and sleep.

November 30, 2019 - Taj Mahal at Sunrise!

TajSmallThis morning be prepared to be amazed! We will visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Built by emperor Shah Jahan, the Taj is a white marble memorial to his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal. This monument took 22 years to be completed and was designed, and planned by Persian architect Ustad Isa. Apart from its stunning design balance and perfect symmetry, the Taj is also noted particularly for its elegant domes, intricately carved screens and some of the best inlay work ever seen.

Emperor Shah Jahan said of the Taj Mahal, “The sun and moon shed tears from their eyes.” This magnificent architectural wonder, often referred to as “poetry in form” attracts millions of visitors a year. Considered the most beautiful building in the world, the Taj Mahal is the true representation of our time in India as Shah Jahan built this monumental structure as a final resting place for his wife, the woman he loved more than anyone. It is the perfect last stop before heading home.

www.TaoJourneys.com

After breakfast we will check out from the hotel and then go to see:

BABY TAJ or the ITMAD-UD-ULLAH – The interiors of which are considered better than the Taj Mahal. One of the most beautiful Mughal tombs, Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s Tomb was built by Nur Jahan, the Empress of Jehangir for her father in 1628. The tomb is a resting place of the powerful personality in Mughal Court, Itmad-Ud-Daulah, whose life is very interesting. Formerly a very poor Persian merchant then named Mirza Ghiyas or Ghiyas Beg he became a minister and a trusted treasure in Akbar’s court. After Akbar’s death in 1605, his son Jahangir rose into power. Jahangir made Ghiyas Beg his chief minister and honored him with the title of Itmad-Ud-Daulah, the Pillar of State. Later, Jahangir met a beautiful daughter of Ghiyas Beg named Mehr-Un-Nissa and married her. Mehr-Un-Nissa soon played a significant role in the Jahangir’s court and was called Nur Mahal, the light of the Place. Owing to her influence, her father and brother were granted with privileges in the court. When Ghiyas beg (Itmad-Un-Daulah) dies in 1622, Nur Mahal decided to build a mausoleum for him. Queen Mumtaz Mahal or the lady of the Taj was also from this prevailing family. The mausoleum is entirely made of white marble and graced with intricate decoration of inlay work, and marble-screen work belonging to the Islamic style. With its tranquil, small garden on the bank of Yamuna River, the tomb stands impressively elegant from a distance

Thereafter we will drive to Delhi International airport to board the flight for onward journey

Keep in Mind:

The actual schedule of teachings and what we will be doing day to day is an outline only, and mostly we will be in the moment as the Tao prescribes. Every day will be a magical experience for all of us, so keep your heart and mind open to the experience life brings us. Due to the remote areas we are traveling to, weather, bad roads and other unseen obstacles may cause us to make changes in our itinerary.

On this spiritual journey our intent is to create sacred space where we can learn and share in group for the purpose of deepening our spiritual connections. The power of our teachings (please make sure you align with the group leader’s philosophy) and ceremonies comes from our combined energy and if group process does not interest you, then this trip would not be your best choice.

Level of Difficulty:

Beginners Level – The most strenuous exercise we will be doing would be walking or basic hiking, mostly on flat terrain. Basic Yoga / Chi Kung movement and swimming. So you don’t need to be in top fitness shape for this trip. However, it is recommended that you start regular walking to get prepared before the trip.

How to Get to India:

Guests on our trip must provide their own passage to and from New Delhi. All other aspects of our trip are included in our price.
